Yoga
About
Yoga is a discipline which originates from India and uses breathing techniques, physical postures and meditation to improve health and happiness. Derived from the Sanskrit word for "yoke” or "join together,” it essentially means union. It is the science of uniting the individual soul with the cosmic spirit through the combined practices of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing) and dhyana (meditation).
Yoga encourages a present state of being that is based on body and mind awareness in order to fully experience your wonderful (and wondrous) existence here on earth.
Benefits
The benefits of Yoga range from improving health to achieving a more balanced lifestyle. Yoga acts in a wholesome manner on the various body parts in a truly holistic way. It massages the internal glands and organs of the body, which in turn help facilitate the nourishment of cells, bring more clarity and calm to the mind and improve quality of life. By keeping the body clean, flexible and well lubricated, Yoga significantly reduces the catabolic process of cell deterioration (aging process).
Some of the benefits of Yoga:
- Steadiness and concentration improve
- Dexterity skills/balance and posture improve
- Strength, endurance and resiliency increase
- Immunity increases
- Energy level increases
- Weight normalizes
- Sleep improves
- Pain decreases
Teaching
What are my style and philosophy of Yoga?
"I have been teaching Yoga (Vinyasa) for nearly 15 years. The word Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement." I personally see Yoga as a moving meditation, a breath-synchronized series of movements done in full awareness of the present moment. My dance background, extensive knowledge of the human body and continuous Yoga practice have contributed to the increased awareness and quality of my Yoga instruction. My classes are usually infused with flow and playfulness and offer a relaxed and awakening atmosphere. Through the exploration of your own mindfulness, you can experience a deeper understanding of yourself and a more personal connection with the world. My intention is for my students to leave the class with an openness and awareness of the life flow within and around us.”
